Wild Flowers in Pine Valley

All of these wild flowers are in Pine Valley. Most are blooming right now. Do you know their names? I'd give you an answer key, but I don't know all of them myself :) They're very pretty though.

SUPER MOON, JUNE 23

Pine Valley should be a perfect place to view the "super moon" which will occur on Sunday, June 23. Also called a "perigee full moon," it describes the moon’s closest approach to Earth for a particular month. The June super moon will be the moon’s closest encounter with Earth this year and will look even larger than it does in other months.
Some of the messages being circulated about this particular moon tend to exaggerate how big the moon will actually appear or to suggest that it will be bright purple or blue. It will be its normal moon color, but should be beautiful to view and photograph. Don't go to bed too early :)

Mountain Lions in Pine Valley

A mountain lion has been caught on camera at a deer feeding station recently in the valley. Also known as cougars or pumas, these cats prefer areas with tree cover, rocky outcroppings and boulder fields—sounds like a description of Pine Valley, right? So there are probably others around, but they just don't let us see them. They are usually very reclusive and will go to great lengths to avoid other creatures including humans. For those of us who like to hike, it is suggested that we hike with others. If by chance a mountain lion is encountered, usually making a lot of noise will make them run. If not, do things to look as big as possible, wave your arms, open your jackets, etc. If one approaches, fight back with rocks sticks or even your hands. Don’t play dead or bend over because it makes you look small. Especially don’t run since that invokes the chase instinct. Attacks on humans are very rare, but mountain lions will prey on any small animals so it would be wise to keep an eye on your family pets.

Summer Hours for Chapel Tours

The Pine Valley Chapel is open for tours every day during the summer until September 9. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. You are invited to tour the chapel and bring visiting friends and family. For groups larger than 30, please give Frank Davie a call (435) 574-3804, so that he can arrange to get some assistance for the tour guides.

CPR Recertification class

The first of the three CPR recertification classes for June 13 has been cancelled because only a couple of people signed up for that date. The other two classes will still be held as planned.

For All CPR Trained Residents: CPR recertification classes will be offered on the following days: 

• Thursday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the PV Fire Station
• Monday, June 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the PV Fire Station
• Thursday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the PV Fire Station
