WHAT IS COMMUNITY WATCH?
Programs similar to Community Watch have been around for many years. It is a program which enlists the participation of community members in cooperation with the local Police in order to reduce crime in a community.
It is one of the most popular and successful of all efforts to prevent residential crime. Perhaps one reason for the success is its simplicity. It is basically an organized way for residents to protect their neighborhood by observing and reporting suspicious or unusual activities.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A COMMUNITY WATCH?
Many communities with active programs have experienced substantial decreases in burglary and vandalism. In addition to the prevention of residential crime, Neighborhood Watch:
• Creates a greater awareness of crime• Increases reporting of crime and suspicious activities• Serves as a warning to criminals• Promotes neighborliness• Provides residents with access to crime patterns and trends that may threaten them• Increases arrest and conviction of criminals due to the availability of eye witnesses
HOW WILL OUR NEIGHBORHOODS BE ORGANIZED?
Neighborhoods will be divided into four sections or Blocks, each with a Block Captain, who will be your first contact in your area if there is a problem or an emergency. This map shows how Pine Valley is divided into four blocks. To see the map in a larger format click this link PVBlockAreas

HOW WOULD WE COMMUNICATE IN AN EMERGENCY?
1. First a message would be put on NextDoor letting residents know there is a CALL TO ACTION. A "call to action" is a notice that there is a pending situation and a request for residents to turn their radios on and go to their block channel for more information.
2. Especially when expanded or more detailed information would be required, we would direct people to the Pine Valley Blog-- http://pinevalleyblog.blogspot.com/
3. Block captains would communicate with the director of our Community Watch and with each other. They would then pass on further, immediate and ongoing messages to their blocks through emergency radios. Although not required, we encourage people to get a radio. There are many to choose from. We do however recommend the Baofeng UV-5G. It is pre-programmed with all the GMRS repeater and NOAA weather channels and it is CHIRP programmable. (Your block captains can explain this if you need clarification)
THESE ARE THE RADIO CHANNELS FOR BLOCK SECTIONS:
Block 1 GMRS Channel 15 Frequency 462.5500
Block 2 GMRS Channel 16 Frequency 462.5750
Block 3 GMRS Channel 17 Frequency 462.6000
Block 4 GMRS Channel 18 Frequency 462.6250
We recommend that you get a GMRS radio. This will allow us to communicate with your and save time so that we have better control in an emergency. However, we have added one more element to Community Watch: We now have a local FM radio station for you to receive updated information at a set time on a CALL TO ACTION.
When we have a CALL TO ACTION, we will use the GMRS radios as our first line of communication. Next tune in to 96.1 FM at 4:00 pm local time to receive information needed for all Pine Valley residents.
