On December 2, 2017 the activities committee hosted one of the largest events of the year which is our annual Christmas Party and, this year an added book drive. The young women in the valley decorated a Christmas tree and the fire station was decorated with beautiful rustic decorations to transform it into a magical holiday setting.
As always, people in the valley brought delicious food including salads, vegetable dishes and potato dishes. The activity committee provided ham, rolls, pies and whip cream. Rick Peetz acted as the mc and did a wonderful job. He included in his commentary a reading of the Christmas story from Luke Chapter 2 which gave the evening a memorable beginning.
After the reading of the Christmas story, he introduced the entertainment, the Stradley family, who delighted us all with singing, guitar playing, drumming and storytelling. At the end of their program, they introduced Santa and both kids and adults waited to give him their Christmas list. While Santa was checking his naughty and nice lists, other attendees visited and got to know each other better.
In addition to the food and the program, we also partnered with United Way Dixie to gather books, gift certificates or donations to buy books for needy children within the Washington County. Statistics indicate that one in every four third-grader in Washington County doesn’t read at grade level so the goal is to buy three new books for every child on their pre-screened Christmas lists. We were able to gather many books and a nice amount of additional contribution to aid in this effort.
The evening was a great introduction to the Christmas month. There were probably about 120 in attendance and we hope each went away feeling the Christmas spirit.

On Saturday, November 25 Pine Valley residents gathered east of the old church to watch the lighting of the nativity and surrounding area. There were somewhere around a hundred people in attendance. We heard some comments from Bob Dalley, sang Christmas carols led by Vicky Hickman and then listened to a beautiful rendition of “Oh Holy Night” by Marlie Root. As she sung about the stars brightly gleaming, the lights were turned on. It was such a beautiful way to introduce the Christmas season.

Since the June Grass Valley/ Pinto Canyon fire impacting many pole structures and power lines, Dixie has been working very hard to replace much of the destroyed and other structures with significantly improved facilities that benefit all of the Pine Valley area.

Earlier this summer, the forest service and others met with community members to get their input on a plan that would reduce fuel around the valley with the aim of preventing large fires and also to preserve homes in the event of fire. Below are some videos sent by Bevan Killpack that demonstrate the benefits of fuel reduction to save homes during a wildfire event:

The power came on during the night last night. Thanks so much to all of the linemen and others who worked so hard to get everything repaired and working again! Thanks also to the firefighters and support people who are still busy working to control the fire.

Update on the power outage--the line was fixed last night on our end, but there is heavier damage on a further section with at least 5 poles down. The forest service wouldn't allow access last night but the lineman are now in repairing the lines and hope to get power up quickly, maybe by tonight.

Grass Valley Fire
As many of you are aware, there is a serious fire that started in Grass Valley on Friday afternoon and has spread toward Pinto.
Power could be out for several days-- we don't know for sure but Dixie Power can only do what the fire will permit.
We've been asked to limit water usage and discontinue watering lawns/ gardens until the power is restored since pumps operate with electricity.
Because internet will also be out, if you receive posts on your phone, please pass the information on to neighbors who may not know.
